Everclear - So Much For The Afterglow - 20th Anniversary Tour @ The Rockhouse

This past Tuesday, The Rockhouse hosted 3 killer bands from the 90's, and for someone who grew up with a lot of music from that era, it was definitely a flashback to say the least. As soon as I hear the 'So Much For The Afterglow 20th Anniversary Tour' was coming through town, I knew I had to photograph it. Luckily, The Walleye asked me to cover it and my wife Anne to try her hand at reviewing the evening.

Burlesque!

With more and more great shows being put on week in and week out, it's hard to keep track and know exactly what to get out and watch. Luckily, that decision was made for me recently, when The Walleye asked me to take some photos of Burlesque! I got two tickets so my wife Anne joined me. We didn't really know what expect going in but we were pleasantly surprised.

Urban Infill: Art in the Core 11

This past Friday I had the opportunity to photograph this years Urban Infill which is hosted by Definitely Superior Art Gallery. This was the 11th year that it took place, but the first time I attended. I don't know how I have gone this many years without checking out but at least I made out this time around. After attending this years event, I will be definitely be going to next years.

Bella Luna Esthetics - Business Photography

One of my most recent business photography sessions was with Nancy and her company Bella Luna Esthetics. Nancy was looking to take her business to the next level by showcasing what she does, through high end imagery. That's exactly what I did.

The first order of business was some very quick headshot photography. Since this all took place at her home studio, I brought my extremely portable studio with me and captured a variety of different headshots, with the one she chose being shown in this post.

The Key - Lifestyle Photography

One of my favourite genres of photography is definitely lifestyle. I think that comes from my love for wedding and portrait photography, which focuses on candid photography. When The Key approached me to cover a variety of events in Thunder Bay, for their upcoming issues I jumped at the chance.

Yo Chef! Round 4 @ Daytona's

Last night, Daytona's in Thunder Bay, hosted Yo Chef! Round 4. It's a wonderful event that essentially pits some of Thunder Bays' best chefs against one another, by preparing dishes for a select panel of local judges. As I mentioned above, it took place at Daytona's, just like the previous events, and it as an absolute packed house. That's the important part too because the all the proceeds go towards Our Kids Count of Thunder Bay.

Big Wreck at the Rockhouse

The Rockhouse once again played host to a band from my childhood. Big Wreck rolled through town this past Tuesday along with Ascot Royals. I was in attendance, along with my wife Anne, to photograph the performances for The Walleye. Surprisingly, this was the first time I had the chance to see Big Wreck live, so I was quite excited to hear some of their new work and of course, some of their classics.

The Hunger 11

Halloween has come and gone but over the weekend I had was fortunate enough to capture all the craziness that was The Hunger 11 in downtown Thunder Bay. This was my third year capturing the event for The Walleye, which was hosted by Definitely Superior Art Gallery. I will continue taking photos of The Hunger as long as I'm able to because it's such a great event. For those who don't know about it, it's a night of live performances at various bars in downtown Port Arthur where people dress up for Halloween to show off their costumes and just have a good old time.

Buckcherry with Sebastian Bach @ The Rockhouse

The Rockhouse in Thunder Bay was host to an amazing concert last night. Three bands performed including The Wild, Sebastian Bach and the main act, Buckcherry. Unfortunately we couldn't get there early enough to watch The Wild perform, but, from what I heard, they put on an amazing show. The main reason I attended the concert was to take photos for The Walleye, but I was super excited to see Sebastian Bach because I grew up listening to him.

Great Lake Swimmers with Megan Bonnell - @ Crocks

Last night, the Great Lake Swimmers made their way to Thunder Bay along with Megan Bonnell. They played at Crocks and both performances were simply fantastic. Admittedly, I had never heard of Megan Bonnell but she had an amazing voice and put on a really intimate performance. For the first few songs she played the keyboard and for a few other songs she played the guitar. I really love stripped down shows and I'm glad I didn't miss this one.

MMIW POW WOW - ONWA

This weekend ONWA was host to a very important event, the MMIW POW-WOW. It was a traditional POW-WOW to honour missing and murdered indigenous women. I have done many sessions over the years at ONWA, photographing families, so I know just how important and giving this organization is. My wife Anne and I just got in from Fort Frances this afternoon so we made it there with about 30 minutes left. During those 30 minutes I was able to capture some images of the event. The least I could do is spread the word through photos for such a serious issue.

Hillsburn at the Foundry

In a spur of the moment kind of evening, Anne and I decided to check out a band coming through Thunder Bay called Hillsburn. While I was doing work earlier in the day I saw that the Foundry was hosting them so I checked out some of the music on YouTube and really liked some of their songs. So, once 10:00pm rolled around we headed out to go see them live.

Thunder at The Bay - Car Show

It was a very busy weekend as I had a wedding and a few other things going on but as soon as I drove by the CLE grounds on the Sunday I knew I had to go there at some point to check out what was going on. I had heard random advertisements about Thunder at the Bay on the radio but never really got the details. So, when I had a couple hours to spare I parked my car at the grounds and made my way through the gate. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in to see a whole lot of vintage cars parked in the lot. With my camera in tow, I weaved in and out of the rows of cars and got in close to take some photos of the cars.

BrewHA Craft Beer Festival 2016

It always amazes me just how many cool events there are in Thunder Bay each summer. Probably my favourite so far this year was this past weekends' BrewHA Craft Beer Festival. This is the second year it has taken place and it doesn't looks like it should be around for years to come. I got the chance to photograph and experience it first hand thanks to The Walleye who, for those who follow this blog, know that I do freelance photograph for them.

Hometown Hockey - Thunder Bay

What a great weekend it was here in Thunder Bay as our city played host to the Hometown Hockey event travelling across Canada. This was my first time attending this event, let along taking photos, and I was so excited to do so. The event took place this past Saturday and Sunday at the Thunder Bay Marina. I was able to make it down on the Saturday near the tail end of the day but I was still able to get some great photos of the last band of the day, which was Canada's own, Poor Young Things

The Art of Flamenco

As most of you know I frequently do freelance photography for The Walleye. Every assignment is always unique and interesting in it's own way. I look forward to each and every one. This time around, I would be photographing one of the writers for the Walleye, Amy Jones. She decided to check an item off her bucket list by learning how to flamenco dance. The location was The World Dance Centre and the instructor was world-renowned dancer, Scannura.

5th Annual Thunder Bay Strongman Competition

This past Saturday the annual 5th Annual Strongman Competition took place at the Wayland Bar and Grill in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Being my first year attending the competition I didn't really know what to expect. Regardless, I packed up my cameras and headed on over. As soon as I got there, I was amazed at the turnout of competitors as well as fans. Right off the bat I noticed my good friend Tony from Theymedia was filming the event. So I set up shop right by him and started capturing some fantastic photos. I was able to observe the tire flip and the push press event. I was amazed by both events and just how much weight these guys were able to throw around.
